Pros- lightweight, starts off hard but gets easier
Cons- can be hard to make a sound, arm position
Clarinet
Pros- lightweight, starts easy
Cons- many pieces, gets harder to play, needs a reed
Saxophone
Pros- popular for jazz music
Cons- heavy, loud at first
Brass Instruments
Trumpet
Pros- only three valves, strong sound
Cons- need a good ear, loud at first
Trombone
Pros- low sound, slide
Cons- need a good ear, awkward case to carry, heavy
Baritone Horn
Pros- beautiful low sound, same finger patterns as trumpet
Cons- heavy
Percussion Instruments
Bells
Pros- no tuning needed, no fingering to memorize
Cons- must stand to play in band, hard to look at music and instrument
Snare Drum
Pros- leadership in band, no pitch
Cons- harder rhythms, must stand to play in band, coordination
Bass Drum
Pros- leadership in band, no pitch
Cons- must stand to play in band, can be boring
Suspended Cymbal
Pros- definitely heard, no pitch
Cons- harder rhythms (or boring), must stand to play in band
Crash Cymbals
Pros- loud, no pitch
Cons- heavy, can be boring
