Home/School Connection

aHome/School Connectiona

Research shows that family engagement is critical to a child's academic achievement and social development.

https://highscope.org/

The two best ways you can support our school’s curriculum at home is by encouraging spoken language. I also suggest visits to the public library, and allowing your child to self-select reading materials that catch their interest. Fostering good reading habits at an early age helps children become proficient readers and life-long learners.

Hi,

The bag that was sent home contains everything needed to continue your child’s education in case of school closures due to the coronavirus. Please keep everything in the bag as well as return it to the bag so that everything is returned to school.

Inside is suggested questions you can ask your child before, during and after reading a book. You can let your child choose the book to be read for the week.  On Monday, you can focus on before reading questions and read the story to your child. On Tuesday, you can focus on echo reading with your child.  In echo reading, the parent reads a short segment of text, sometimes a few words or a sentence, and the child echoes it back. Echo reading is a rereading strategy created to help students build their fluency, motivation and self confidence in reading as well as develop print knowledge. On Wednesday, you can echo read again and ask during questions. On Thursday you can continue to echo read or have your child read on their own if they can as well as ask after questions. On Friday, you can read the story, echo read or have your child read the story.  When finished, have your child recall the story and draw a picture about the story (story paper is also included). After, have them tell you what they drew and you write what they say on the lines below.

I also included a calendar of activities you can complete with your child every day. You can find music and movement and stories on you tube.

There is laminated sign in sheets for your child to practice writing their name independently everyday as well as a laminated tracing sheet to practice on. A wipe off marker is included : )

This information will also be posted on the home/school connection link on my webpage.
