Dear Parents,

Welcome to PreK! My name is Ann Marie Arbore, and I am delighted to be your child's teacher! This will be an exciting year for your child at HES. We are going to have a lot of fun in this class as well as learn a great deal together. When I say together, I mean all of us...your child, you, and me.  We will be learning, making discoveries, and experiencing new things together.  We are a team with a common goal.  That goal is to educate and nurture your child.

I would like to tell you a little about myself.  I was born and raised in Jersey City. I attended St. Anne's Grammar School, continued my high school studies at the Academy of St. Aloysius and graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Psychology. I am a certified PreK-3 Early Childhood Teacher, K-8 Elementary School Teacher as well as PreK-12 Teacher of the Handicapped. This will be my 20th year at Highlands Elementary School. I taught Kindergarten Inclusion my first year, Resource Room (grades 1-6) my second year, Multi-Age (grades 1-6) my third through 13th year (grade levels varied year to year) and Integrated PreKindergarten my 14th year to present time. Before teaching at HES, I worked a few years as a long term leave replacement 7th/8th grade English and History teacher for the Newton School District. I also taught PreK-3 disadvantaged and homeless children at the York Street Project's Nurturing Place in Jersey City. The York Street Project has offered schooling and housing to homeless and economically disadvantaged families since 1989.

I believe my web page is an outstanding method of communication with you. I will be updating my page frequently so that you can stay in touch with what we are doing and the happenings at our school. This will not be my only means of communication. I will be sending memos, letters and reminders home periodically, as well as contacting you by phone or email. Throughout my web page you will find some important information to help our school year run smoothly and successfully. I hope it will answer some of the questions you may have about our class. Please take some time to read my "Philosophy" as it will give you a good indication of my hopes and expectations for the year.

Please be involved in your child's studies.  The rewards for active support in your child's education are hard to see on a day to day basis, but they will manifest themselves down the road, I assure you.

I am here for you and your child should you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached at 732-872-1476. Leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible.

Again, welcome to my class! I look forward to spending this year with you and your child!

Warmest regards,
Miss. Ann Marie Arbore
