TEACHER INTRODUCTION

My name is Mrs. Golembiewski, however, the students call me
“Mrs. G.” This will be my twenty-third year at Highlands Elementary School. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Special Education. I am looking forward to an exciting and fulfilling year with the students!

Open communication is the key to a successful school year for your child. Please feel free to express any questions or concerns to me throughout the year by emailing me at school.

If your child is struggling to complete their work,
try some of the following modifications:

● Provide frequent breaks
● Break assignments into shorter tasks
● Repeat and reword directions
● Provide specific examples
● Highlight tricky or key words in questions
● Allow extra time
● Allow student to work in quiet and distraction-free setting
● Allow for brainstorming prior to the assignment
● Have adult read directions and questions to student

Please watch your child's folder every day for homework. Please do not spend more than 10 minutes having your child complete homework.

For students using the Stevenson Program, words are to be written twice on one side with the pattern underlined and again on the folded side by memory. This helps the brain remember the spelling rather than just copying the words. Also for the Stevenson Program, be sure your child reads the assigned page out loud to an adult every night.

If they are having difficulty, please write on the homework page what they were having trouble with and I will work with them. Homework will reinforce skills we have already been working on so nothing will be new for them.
Thank you!
